Bartholinic retention cyst

 

Indolent cysts arising from the Bartholin –s glands (vaginal auricular glands).

The cause is an obstruction of the excretory duct of a Bartholin –s gland, often as a result of Bartholinitis.

 

 

Skin-coloured, sharply demarcated, turgidly elastic, hemispherical lump.

Clinic

If necessary, biopsy

Inner margin of the labia in the middle/lower third of the vulva.

 

If there is inflammation of the excretory duct, it is known as bartholinitis.
